Clear cover. Clear responsibilities.

How Our Warranties Work

We put workmanship commitments in writing, explain what is covered and apply the South African framework relevant to the type of project—not a one-size-fits-all promise.

The Short Version

The right cover for the right type of work.

Your written quotation or contract records the scope, start date, maintenance requirements and any project-specific warranty terms.

12 months

The Boys workmanship warranty

Eligible renovation, repair and property-improvement work is covered against defects directly caused by our workmanship for 12 months from practical completion or handover, unless the written quotation or contract states a different period.

Project specific

Materials and specialist systems

Products, appliances and proprietary waterproofing or specialist systems carry the manufacturer or supplier warranty applicable to that item. Your project documents record any special conditions and maintenance requirements.

Qualifying enrolled new homes

Where a new home is required to be and is properly enrolled with the NHBRC, the current statutory notification periods are 3 months for specified defects, 1 year for roof leaks and 5 years for major structural defects.

New-Home Framework

How NHBRC cover works.

For a qualifying new home enrolled with the NHBRC, a housing consumer must notify the home builder in writing within the applicable period.

3 months

Defects and non-compliance

Defects or deviations from the building agreement, plans or specifications, including deficiencies related to design, workmanship or materials, must be reported in writing within three months of occupation.

These snag-list or maintenance defects remain the builder’s responsibility but are not covered by the NHBRC warranty fund.
1 year

Roof leaks

Qualifying roof leaks attributable to workmanship, design or materials must be reported in writing within one year of occupation.

5 years

Major structural defects

Major structural defects affecting the structural integrity of the home must be reported in writing within five years of occupation.

What Is Covered

Our workmanship commitment.

  • A defect directly caused by The Boys’ workmanship within the covered scope.
  • Failure of work installed by us where the cause is faulty installation.
  • Reasonable inspection and repair or rectification where a claim is confirmed as covered.
  • Materials supplied by us are handled in line with applicable manufacturer, supplier and statutory rights.
What Is Not Normally Covered

Common exclusions.

  • Normal wear and tear, ageing, shrinkage, settlement or minor cosmetic cracking not caused by defective work.
  • Neglect or inadequate maintenance, including gutters, drains, sealants, ventilation, humidity control and required service intervals.
  • Misuse, overloading, unauthorised alterations or work performed by another contractor after handover.
  • Inherent defects in client-supplied products or materials; our installation obligations remain subject to the agreed scope and applicable law.
  • Pre-existing conditions, hidden defects, structural movement or water ingress outside the approved scope.
  • Storms, flooding, fire, lightning, theft, pests, municipal or utility failures, ground movement and other external events.
  • Temporary or emergency repairs unless the written quotation identifies them as a permanent solution.
Warranty Enquiries

How to report a concern.

Tell us promptly and in writing so we can review the concern while the cause is still clear.

  1. 1
    Notify us in writing

Email us within the applicable warranty or notification period.

  2. 2
    Include the details

Send the quotation or invoice number, property address, date discovered, description and clear photographs or video.

  3. 3
    Prevent further damage

Take reasonable steps to limit damage and, unless urgent safety work is required, allow us to inspect before another contractor alters the work.

  4. 4
    Inspection and outcome

We assess the cause and scope. If covered, we arrange reasonable rectification; if not, we explain why and can quote for the required work.

Your Rights

Written clearly, applied fairly.

Statutory rights remain

Nothing on this page excludes or limits rights and remedies available under the Consumer Protection Act or applicable housing law.

Project documents matter

The approved scope, warranty terms, handover record and maintenance requirements in your signed quotation or contract apply to the extent that they are consistent with applicable law.

Ask before work starts

If a product, specialist system or project requires different cover, we will record it in writing so that responsibilities are clear.
